What is Endocrinology?
-Clinical Endocrinology is the branch of medicine that helps diagnose and treat patients with problems related to hormones. This can include too much of one hormone, too little of another, or swellings within one of the glands that makes them. Diabetes is a subspecialty in endocrinology. High sugars in diabetes are due to imbalance in production or action of the hormone insulin.

What are hormones and what do they do?
-Hormones are natural substances made by the body that act as chemical messengers, allowing different parts of the body to communicate with each other (very much like a Wi-Fi network) and so co-ordinate the body's response to variety of changes. These range from stress and illness to changes in the weather and ageing.

As hormones co-ordinate the working of several different organs, any imbalance in its production or function can cause a wide range of symptoms and diseases.
